Marjorie’s heart was heavy when she walked through the front door of the Wynchester residence. She could go home, but Adrian could not. Possibly not for months or years, unless Marjorie found a way to take Snowley down faster.

And now Lady Iris was caught in the net, too.

The Wynchester siblings would meet soon for supper, but Marjorie couldn’t wait that long to assure herself that her entire family was safe, sound, and accounted for.

Or maybe she just missed them. A secondary effect to being the primary Wynchester out on adventure was that she was no longer home all day to run into this brother or that sister at regular intervals.

Marjorie hadn’t realized how much peace she got from the knowledge that she was never alone. That there was always another Wynchester in the house. That if she needed help—or just a hug—all she had to do to be reunited with someone who loved her unconditionally was step out of her studio.

Snowley’s lair suddenly seemed much too far away from home.

“Oh, there you are.” Elizabeth was coming down the stairs bearing a baby bunny in one hand.

Elizabeth’s top lip had a faint green tint… as did the bunny’s. Marjorie suspected Elizabeth had once again been sharing her pistachio ices, despite Jacob’s repeated scolding. Marjorie had never missed stained skin and brotherly scoldings more in her life.

Elizabeth’s eyes sparkled. “Survive another boring day in someone else’s studio?”

Marjorie threw her arms about her sister and hugged her tight.

Alarmed, Elizabeth patted Marjorie’s back with her free hand. “Are you all right? What has Webb done? Say the word, and I shall behead him.”

“It’s not about Adrian,” Marjorie said into her sister’s shoulder.

Except it was about him. Even if Adrian had been granted the same freedom to leave Snowley’s nest every night… he still couldn’t go home to his family. He had a father who believed the worst of him, and a brother who had orchestrated it. And a sister who, now more than ever, could not risk the ire of their father.

“Can the family meet early?” Marjorie asked. “I have an auxiliary case.”

Elizabeth moved the bunny to her shoulder. “Does your case involve me running blackguards through with my rapier?”

“I hope so,” Marjorie said darkly.

Elizabeth clapped her hands in delight. “Tell the others. I’ll pen a note to Chloe.”

Marjorie hurried up the stairs. The doors to Tommy and Philippa’s connected suites were open. They were both inside Tommy’s boudoir, Philippa curled in an armchair with a book, and Tommy at her dressing table, squinting at her reflection as she added deep wrinkles to her young face.

“Aha! Just the genius I was praising.” Tommy held up a collection of cosmetics set into a wooden case. “Your idea to organize my cosmetics into thematic palettes works phenomenally. All I have to do is grab Crotchety Old Man and voilà! I can’t thank you enough.”

Marjorie flushed. “It’s my pleasure.”

“Don’t go anywhere!” Philippa set down her book and leapt to her feet. “I’ve something I think you will like.
